Our next scheduled workshops are for September 2010. We are planning a workshop on web 2.0 tools that are useful for teaching. This will look at tools from moodle to jing and explore how they are used in teaching.
We also plan a workshop on the dogme approach as well as a workshop that shows one approach to time management.
From August 2010, we will start accepting enrolments for the workshop.
All workshops will be offered free of charge.

Recent Feedback

"Sharing your experiences is always something positive as it often doesn’t happen in the daily work situation, as everybody is just too busy." "I learnt I enjoyed working online, it was the first course I had done like this and it was better than expected"
"I learnt loads – particularly useful were tips on classroom management techniques from other teachers to use with students with special needs (and in fact all students!)"
"I particularly liked input sessions on phonology, vocabulary, discourse analysis and all 4 skills. These sessions were especially informative and accessible and proved to be of immediate use."
"I think it was a very good course, hard work but very useful. I can see it not only in my teaching, but in the comments I make on the lessons I observe and in the lesson planning sessions with inexperienced teachers."
"excellent course notes: succinct, informative, helpful"
"We had great tutors and it was a pleasure to work with them. If I had any questions, our tutors answered them very carefully and in detail."
"I am extremely enthusiastic about this course. I was told that the course was good by a former course participant, but it has surpassed all expectations."
"I just want to say thanks to everyone who took part in creating this course and those involved in doing this particular COLT. I have benefited a lot from it."
"This is a great course that I would recommend to anyone even vaguely intrigued by what online learning is about…or totally adverse to it (I am sure they would change their mind!)"

IH Certificate in Teaching English:

Course objectives
The International House Certificate in Teaching Languages (IHCTL) is an initial teacher training certificate designed to prepare candidates for a job or career as a Language Teacher working with students who are learning the target language as a second / third etc., or foreign language. The main focus of the course is the planning and execution of lessons, followed by self-evaluation, group discussion, tutor's oral and written feedback and candidate reflection on the whole process in order to inform future lessons and personal professional development. It is, therefore, experiential learning which is supported by an input programme, the production of written assignments of a practical nature, and the observation of professionals in the field.
By the end of the course, successful candidates will have received input and feedback in the areas listed below and will have reached a standard suitable for employment as a Language Teacher; they should note, however, that the course is only an initial qualification and it is expected successful candidates have the ability and aptitude to continue to learn and develop after the course as a practising teacher.
  • Good level of language awareness and an awareness of potential problems learners face at a variety of levels;
  • Lesson preparation including formulating overall and stage aims, appropriate staging to achieve aims and choosing appropriate materials with the aims and students in mind;
  • Classroom teaching skills including the ability to successfully teach language skills and language systems lessons and then provide appropriate controlled and communicative practice which relates to the target point;
  • The ability to establish a good rapport with individuals and groups of learners and to motivate them by relating lessons to their needs, interests and backgrounds;
  • The ability to evaluate their own classroom performance and highlight areas for further development, and to act as a professional with regard to administrative matters and relations with colleagues

The certificate is awarded to teachers who successfully complete the three areas of the course - the course work, the written assignments and teaching practice.
