Giving and getting feedback on both language and skills tasks is a crucial phase of any language lesson. In Feedback Fiesta we'll look at different ways of ensuring learners are motivated and receive meaningful feedback - through the use of games, planned error correction and the feedback PERM. Come and join us and make your feedback phases a fiesta, not a siesta! The workshop will be led by Neil McMahon, IHWO Coordinator for Resources and a teacher trainer at IH Buenos Aires Teacher Training. Tech needed to attend: A reliable internet connection free of background noise and a mic/headphones headset. Headphones are imperative to avoid feedback for your fellow participants. ![]() International House (IH) is one of the largest language school networks, teaching 25 languages in over 145 schools in more than 50 countries worldwide. IH Certificate in Teaching English: Course objectivesThe International House Certificate in Teaching Languages (IHCTL) is an initial teacher training certificate designed to prepare candidates for a job or career as a Language Teacher working with students who are learning the target language as a second / third etc., or foreign language. The main focus of the course is the planning and execution of lessons, followed by self-evaluation, group discussion, tutor's oral and written feedback and candidate reflection on the whole process in order to inform future lessons and personal professional development. It is, therefore, experiential learning which is supported by an input programme, the production of written assignments of a practical nature, and the observation of professionals in the field. By the end of the course, successful candidates will have received input and feedback in the areas listed below and will have reached a standard suitable for employment as a Language Teacher; they should note, however, that the course is only an initial qualification and it is expected successful candidates have the ability and aptitude to continue to learn and develop after the course as a practising teacher.
Course contentThe IHC online is divided into 14 compulsory modules covering everything from classroom management to motivating students. There are further optional modules that may be covered towards the end of the course Mode of assessmentThe certificate is awarded to teachers who successfully complete the three areas of the course - the course work, the written assignments and teaching practice. Cost£300 for IH staff £600 for non-IH staff Please note that if you are paying as an individual, or via an institution in the UK, 20% VAT will be added to your invoice. LocationThe course is run partly online and requires regular / daily access to the Internet with a good connection. The face-to-face component consists of teaching: a minimum of 6 hours over the schedule length of the course e.g. 8 x 40 minute lessons with two different age groups. Note: if you do not work at an IH school then you need to be able to arrange for a local tutor and have classes to be observed. TutorsThere will be two types of tutors. An online tutor who will guide trainees through the online sessions and mark the two assignments and a face-to-face tutor who will observe the trainee teaching and provide feedback on lessons Time commitmentThe course consists of 120 hours of input and a minimum of 80 hours of homework and reading tasks How to applyClick here for an application form.
