2012 Workshops
Giving and getting feedback on both language and skills tasks is a crucial phase of any language lesson. In Feedback Fiesta we'll look at different ways of ensuring learners are motivated and receive meaningful feedback - through the use of games, planned error correction and the feedback PERM. Come and join us and make your feedback phases a fiesta, not a siesta!

The workshop will be led by Neil McMahon, IHWO Coordinator for Resources and a teacher trainer at IH Buenos Aires Teacher Training.

Tech needed to attend: A reliable internet connection free of background noise and a mic/headphones headset.

Headphones are imperative to avoid feedback for your fellow participants.

Course Conditions

All IH Online Teacher Training Course fees are subject to the following payment rules and course participation cancellation policy.
Full payment of the course fee must be received within 15 days of invoice and at least two weeks before the course start date. Participants enrolling on a course less than 2 weeks before it is due to start must pay immediately. Non receipt of payment prior to the course start date may result in the loss of the participants place on the course.
Participants who cancel their attendance on a course 30 days or more before the start date will be charged a £25 cancellation fee and refunded the rest of their course fee. Those who cancel less than 30 days and up to 10 days before the start date of the course will receive a refund of only 50% of the course fee. Participants who cancel less than 10 days before the start date of the course will forfeit their course fee in total and no refund will be given.

IHWO Director of Studies Course Online:

Course objectives
The International House DoS certificate course is designed for experienced teachers who are interested in being trained to take up a position as a Director of Studies in a language school and teachers who are taking their first steps into academic management.
The course aims to give an overview of what can be expected in a DOS's job, and sessions are designed to give participants the opportunity to experience being in the role of a DOS. It aims to provide an introduction to the theory and practice of being a DOS in an International House school through an interactive and participatory programme of seminars and task work.
Course content
The course has 13 modules (of differing length) usually covered over a 12-week  to 16-week period. It is expected that a participant on this course can dedicate a minimum of 5 hours week to doing the tasks. After dealing with introductions, the course covers these areas:

Defining the duties of an academic manager, Communication,  How to manage change, Time Management, The Recruitment Process,  Induction, Developing a teacher development programme, Conducting observations,  Motivating staff, Conducting appraisals,  Customer satisfaction, and Financing courses

Mode of assessment
Assessment is done by means of an electronic portfolio.  Each module has a homework task that forms part of the portfolio/ Participants are expected to submit a minimum of 60 percent of the tasks to their portfolio. In addition there is final reflective essay, which needs to be submitted.  The portfolio is moderated by the IH Assessment Unit who agree the final grades with the course tutors.
We expect you are
- an experienced teacher preferably with a diploma qualification
- about to enter or recently entered a post as an academic manager

Please note that if you are paying as an individual, or via an institution in the UK, 20% VAT will be added to your invoice.
Location
The course is run online and requires regular / daily access to the Internet with a good connection.
Tutors
The course is run by qualified online tutors who have experience both of academic management and teacher training.
Time commitment
This course is designed to be completed within 50 hours (including online and offline work); on the basis of approximately 1-2 hours a day. However, you are under no obligation to visit the course as frequently as this and you may prefer to do more work at weekends rather than on a daily basis - however please note some of the tasks require group work and have deadlines.
